HYDRO EXCAVATING

The uncovering of buried lines is commonly completed by a combination of hand digging and heavy equipment.
Hydro excavating (also known as daylighting) is process used to uncover and expose underground utilities and pipelines to daylight, hence the term daylighting. Hydro excavating is used to improve safety, and lower project costs.

Tristar Services uses our hydro excavating equipment in a number of general excavation and cleaning applications, including: exposing buried pipes and cables, piling holes,  trenching, culvert cleanouts or other debris removal.

Tristar’s hydrovac system includes a combination of utilities – water, pressure and vacuum – combined in one self-contained, mobile unit. Water is pressurized and injected into the ground using a handheld wand to wash away the soil from around underground utilities or pipes. The result is a slurry that is simultaneously vacuumed from the site through a large hose and temporarily stored in a debris tank.

This non-destructive type of excavating is becoming recognized as the best practice when working in areas with underground utilities and frozen ground. By using this practice, it almost completely eliminates any chance of damaging utilities or pipes which may be located incorrectly on the surface above.
